Leftover Meat Mondays: Pasta with Sausage and Baby Broccoli
Mr. MVP and I talked about being part of the "Meatless Monday" movement. We didn't have to be convinced that going meatless at least one day a week can be good--for the environment, for your health, for your wallet. So we enjoyed a few consecutive meatless Mondays. But then we had extra chicken from a Sunday barbecue and wanted to make tacos with the leftovers on Monday. And then we had some remaining steak from another Sunday dinner and decided to make bolognese sauce the next day with the leftovers. We grill a lot on the weekends and don't like to let leftovers go to waste, so now we're going to try for Meatless Tuesdays or Wednesdays and we're going to make sure we compose leftover meals that don't feel like leftover meals--making them good enough to be prepared and enjoyed any day, even if you aren't trying to use what you don't want to waste.

Italian sausage on the grill, part of a mixed grill and pizza dinner

Today:
Pasta with baby broccoli and sausage. While pasta of your choice is cooking, cut the leftover sausage into bite-size pieces. In a saucepan, saute several cloves of garlic in olive oil until garlic is soft but not browned. Add 1/2 cup vegetable stock and baby broccoli and cover until broccoli is tender but still firm. Remove broccoli and add sausage bites to the saucepan with a splash of some more vegetable stock and cook on medium until heated. Toss pasta with sausage, broccoli, and parmesan cheese. Enjoy.

BATIK TELAH DI AKUI DUNIA SEBAGAI HASIL KARYA BANGSA INDONESIA
UNESCO pada tgl 2 0ktober 2010 telah mematok palu mengakui bangsa Indonesia dengan hasil karya batiknya sebagai Made In (buatan) Indonesia tulen, dan tak terbantahkan. Setahun sudah pengakuan itu dapat dipertahankan sebagai hasil karya paten nenek moyang bangsa Indonesia. Zaman sekarang juragan-juragan batik tidak membatik lagi, batik dikerjakan oleh orang-orang kecil yang membutuhkan kerja untuk memenuhi kebutuhan kesehariannya. Juragan batik hanya memberikan upah pada para pekerjanya. Hal ini memang telah mengalami pergeseran dalam perkembangan batik dari satu era ke era lainnya. Semoga eksistensi batik Indonesia dapat dipertahankan, terutama untuk batik tulis yang telah diakui keberadaannya di mata dunia dalam hal ini pengakuan dari UNESCO.

Sebagian daerah Kendal, seperti di Weleri kerajinan batik juga berkembang. Orang Weleri dapat juga membuat batik dengan hasil yang cukup baik dan halus. Memory Lane: Coach's Lessons Part 2
I love finding inspiration in unlikely places, like on the side of a cookie box. I posted last week about a Teddy Roosevelt quote I learned from my high school track coach. The quote is printed on a box of Bart's cookies I found at Whole Foods. I bought the cookies because of the claim on the front of the box that they're "The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies in the World." Them's fighting words--and then I spotted the real fighting words on the side. Good cookies, but I still believe homemade ones are best.

October Update: The Streets, Stinky's, TA, Griffintown, and more
I decided to compile the best of what I got over the course of the month instead of dropping four or five separate posts. I don't know if I'll so the same for November as I revisited Turcot, Rouen, and a few other spots that I'd like to shine a special light on. Even though I scrutinized a lot of my shots for this post there's still a bunch I threw in. From the streets to Stinky's to TA to Griffintown and everything in between, I impart some of my shiniest gems for your viewing pleasure. Even though I'm out in the streets & pounding pavement on the regular, I'm always finding something new to take a shot of, fresh or not, in my face or tucked away in an alleyway somewhere. 
The TA wall area was pretty quiet as the construction crews had all but taken over with their equipment and hardware. Except for a few small spots along either the upper or lower walls, most stuff, if anything, was on the pillars. And all the construction vehicles and equipment too, of course. I was able to snap a few shots of the wall area and a few more from inside the factory a couple of times while passing through. I got some great shots from the roof at one point later into the month just at dusk. The factory seemed to be the site of anything new going up although I did like some of the stuff up around the wall area.
I got a good walk through of Griffintown and the surrounding area late into the month. I ended up at this old silo spot just off of Wellington that had been fenced up sometime ago. Seeing there was graffiti, I took my camera in to get a peek. There was no way I was going to get into this place as it had been thouroughly barred up. So I just got some pics of what I could and continued on. Although it was a small little corner in the depths of the Griffintown area, it had great appeal. There was a nice jam wall along Wellington as well that had some solid pieces too. Besides that, it was just nice to be out taking in the autumn air along and around the canal.
The final spot that I checked out was CN Wellington and the old swing bridge along the water. I'd seen this spot for a while but it was never really accessible to me before recent as the doorway is normally sealed and bolted. Someone had taken the time to open it up so this time around I got in and got some shots. It was a nice end to a month of great flic missions. I'd end up coming back here in November and December with an external flash -I'll post those pics soon enough.
